Start your goal planning for 2026 with the most important step: YOU.

I feel like this time of year a lot of us start to run out of steam. Your body and mind start to crave rest. It’s not the moment we want to ramp up into ‘go mode’. But, we’re still ambitious people, right? So we also don’t want to just slow down and stop all momentum.

So where is the middle ground? The ground between ending the year with a big push or ending the year cocooning and waiting till 2026 to make progress?

It’s this: using this time to support the most important part of achieving any goal…you.

Rethink your end-of-year “strategy”

Most people start the new year focusing on strategy, mapping out steps, systems, and plans. But the truth is, your strategy is only as good as the state you’re in when you start.

Before you plan your next launch, your business goals, or the next big move, ask yourself:

What do I personally need to make those goals possible?

For example, if you want to grow your business in 2026, maybe what you actually need right now is better energy, lower stress, or a clearer head. If you want to get to the gym more maybe you need to start looking at a better wind down and sleep routine so you actually have the energy to get up for those morning workouts you want to start.

Instead of squeezing in another course or strategy session, maybe it’s time to take care of you, the human behind the plan.

What that might look like

To start laying strong foundations for those 2026 goals you can start weaving in small nourishing habits now. They don’t need to be huge. In fact, the smaller and more doable, the better. You might:

💤 Go to bed 30 minutes earlier so you get more restorative sleep and wake up feeling refreshed

📱 Cut down on doom-scrolling (I use a BRICK for this and honestly it works better than any screen blocking app I’ve ever used. It’s made a massive difference to how much I doom scroll!)

💗 Add a bit more social connection into your week, like a co-working space, a new fitness class, or simply coffee with another business owner. Working for yourself can get lonely and social connection is a key pillar for our well-being that will help fill your cup.

🧘‍♀️ Maybe you start building more micro-rests into your day. Just two minutes between tasks to breathe, stretch, or get outside can make a big difference to your energy and mood.

So we don’t need to either push hard or slow down completely, instead we use the end of this year to build strong foundations for our 2026 goals.

Nourished foundations so that when January comes, your goals aren’t sitting on top of stress and exhaustion. You can instead work towards them from a place of energy and ease.

The question that changes everything

When you sit down to set your goals for 2026, start with this:

“What do I need, physically, mentally, and emotionally, to make this goal achievable?”

Maybe you know you need to lower your stress before you even think about scaling your business, or you need better sleep if you’re ever going to make those 6am gym sessions you’re aiming to get to. Use this time to work on the goal before the goal: nourishing yourself.

This shift will change how you work towards those goals and greatly increase your chance of achieving them. Goals built on a healthy and energised body and mind (not burn out, caffeine and stress!) can go the distance.
